Over the course of the last five years Cloud Nothings and Wavves have emitted a discography of slacker-inspired lo-fi punk jams that have permeated the indie rock blogosphere. It’s only natural that the two frontmen would collaborate on an album.
Pitchfork announced the album information.
Nathan Williams-led Wavves has transitioned from lo-fi noise punk with a catchy pop punk flare to melodic indie punk with pop tendencies. The production level has evolved from album to album but the snarky teenage nihilism attitude has become a constant theme throughout. Cloud Nothings, brainchild of Dylan Baldi, on the other hand have maintained the fuzzy sounds of the lo-fi tendencies of their first album while still maintaining a barrage of rock and roll chord work and late 20s post-jaded lyrics.
Over year in the making, the two of the working together shouldn’t really come as a surprise. While their respective projects differ in production and to a degree style, they share the same type of songwriting motifs and overall musical aesthetic. As seen in the cover art, the bands are also collaborating with Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, but very few details have been leaked about the album; no track list is available and there’s no indication of a specific release date.
Cloud Nothings can currently be seen roaming downtown Austin for several SXSW shows while Wavves is making their festival rounds and hopefully either of them will be previewing some of the new collaborated songs.
