Producers Of Drake’s Concert Film Say Drake Could Face A $15 Million Lawsuit For Disowning Film

Consequence of Sound reports that Drake could potentially face a $15 million libel suit from the producers of Drake’s Homecoming: The Lost Footage. The film, due out on Thursday, is focused around a 2009 concert in Toronto from the Canadian rapper. It boasts a plethora of unreleased footage, including interviews with the man who is recognized for discovering Drake, Jas Prince.

Drake made an official statement on his personal Twitter account on Monday saying:

In response to Drake’s abrupt separation from the film, producers are deliberating whether to hit the MC with a $15 million lawsuit. They contend that Drake’s actions have broken the contractual agreement he made with them and Serious Entertainment. The contract is said to reveal that Drake gave his full consent for the filming of the show, and was in turn “paid a $15,000 cash and promised a 15% profit royalty for his participation in the project.”

Although there were multiple efforts to incorporate Drake in the film’s creation, the rapper remained distant.

Co-executive producer Mark Berry told the Los Angeles Times: “There was no participation [from] Drake in the deals, because frankly he wasn’t needed. Did we want him on board for it? Absolutely. But he just wasn’t coming to the table, for whatever reason.”

He later claims that Drake’s absence from the film’s process was due to the low percentage he was offered from the profits of the movie.

“Bottom line is, you signed a contract. You got to honor it,” Berry asserted.
