Famed actress from the show Portlandia and one of three pop princesses in the group Sleater-Kinney Carrie Brownstein is releasing a memoir titled Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl due out in October. Brownstein first hinted that a memoir was in the works a few years back, but since then the buzz surrounding the memoir seemed to fade.
2015 has already been a busy year for the multi-talented Brownstein. After Sleater-Kinney announced that they would be reuniting late last year, she along with the Sleater-Kinney band members Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss released their first album in decade titled “No Cities to Love” in January. The band will also be performing at Barcelona, Spain’s Primavera Sound Festival in late May. The hit show Portlandia, that Brownstein co-produces, was renewed for two more seasons, and the season 5 finale is set to premiere this week. On top of all this Carrie announced that her memoir titled Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl is finally coming out. Brownstein took to her twitter page to reveal that along with the release of her memoir in the fall, there will be an audio book, and she will be going on book tour. She will be accompanied on this book tour by Kim Gordon who released her own memoir Girl In A Band, and Aimee Mann .

The timeline covered throughout the memoir dates back to the 1990s before a younger Brownstein made an impact on music’s landscape. The memoir will detail how the world was different from her upbringing in the Pacific Northwest, and how Carrie had to go after what she truly wanted. Also the world of Rock-and-Roll, a male dominated arena, is portrayed through the eyes of a teenage girl who’s band was bringing the topic of feminism to the forefront. The memoir leads up to around the time Sleater-Kinney decided to take a break. As the Paste Magazine article makes a note of, this leaves out her experiences with Portlandia.
Last fall the group first announced that their entire discography would be remastered and reissued, which tipped off the world that something was up. 2015 came and what was up is that Carrie Brownstein would be relinquishing her own brand of world domination. She has become critically acclaimed in every medium, and her face has seemingly been everywhere as of late. The memoir will for sure be an interesting read given that Carrie, aside from co-writing the show Portlandia, is a published author. The success of the show and Sleater-Kinney’s reunion should provide some grade-A material for a possible sequel to Hunger Makes me a Modern Girl.
