Canadian singer-songwriting sweetheart Grimes took to twitter late last night to surprise her fans with new music. The song “REALiTi” is a song that was supposedly never going to see the light of day. To the heartbreak of many, including myself, Grimes scrapped her album which she now calls “~The Lost Album~”.
In case you are unfamiliar with Grimes, for comparative reasons she is like a cross between FKA Twigs and Banks. That was for strictly comparative purposes, because she stands out in her light. Grimes, 26, has been building a buzz since her 2010 releases Geidi Primes, and Halfaxa. Her style bring Rhythm and Blues to EDM. She has documented some of her influences being Marilyn Manson, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, and Lana Del Rey. Since crash landing onto the scene, her name continues to build a gradual buzz. One that will eventually take over the world, if it already hasn’t done so.
From the beginning the songs drum pattern serves as a build up into a hard-hitting electric instrumentation that encompasses you in an almost trance-like manner. About twenty seconds in, Grimes voice comes in so smoothly perfectly complementing the beat in way that it is a step short of seductive. As the song progresses her personality shines through as bright and energetic making the song irresistible. Along with the song, Grimes put out an equally bright and energetic visual. The video is a compilation of footage of her Asian tour. She is seen dancing and interacting with fans in Singapore, Jakarta, and Shanghai to name a few. Grimes is also showcasing her fun and light-hearted nature. She comes off as an extremely down to earth and likable person. The music video shows how internationally well known she is, and how relatable she is to a wide audience.

“This song was never finished. its a demo from ~ the lost album ~, recorded early 2013. i lost the ableton file, so its not mixed or mastered. i tried to doctor the mp3 into a listenable state, but it was poorly recorded in the first place and never meant to be heard by anyone, so its a bit of a mess haha.”
Well, the song surely does not sound like a mess. In fact if this song is what her “mess” sounds like we are in store for an amazing album. And while she hasn’t released any details of a new album release date, there is one definitely in the works. Grimes brought her own recording equipment, because she simply does not see the point of recording in professional studios, and thinks they are an expensive waste of time. This also provides her with the opportunity to record whenever magic strikes. Much like it surely struck here.
