It’s been a hectic two years for The Pixies. In the Fall of 2012, six days into recording new material for the first time in almost twenty years, long-time bassist Kim Deal walked out and decided to leave the band. The remaining members, however, made the decision to carry on and released Indie Cindy in April 2014. They have been touring almost non-stop since 2013, and have made 10 music videos and 5 EP’s in that period, all with a variety of touring bass players.
The pixies are perhaps one of the most influential bands of the last twenty years, which is especially amazing when one considers they released only four albums in the late 80’s and early 90’s. As both pioneers of the indie scene, and as influencers of bands like Nirvana and Radiohead, it is hard to say what music might be like today without The Pixies. The fact they have been selling out major venues everywhere is only a testament to their importance to multiple generations of music fans.
John Grant rose to fame as a member of alt-rock band The Czars, a band he was a member of from 1996 until 2006. After their breakup Grant took some time off from music, before renewing his career in 2010 as a solo singer-songwriter. Grant splits his time between New York, London, Berlin and Iceland, and has garnered numerous awards for his solo releases. If it weren’t for the opportunity of playing with The Pixies, Grant would likely be headlining his own tour of major venues across the globe.
