Bahamas @ Irving Plaza 6/19

Canadian folk musician Bahamas (the pseudonym for songwriter Afie Jurvanen) will play at Irving Plaza in Union Square this summer. Jurvanen ascended the Canadian folk music scene not through his solo material, but as a sideman for renowned singer-songwriter Feist. It was only after years of touring and recordings that Jurvanen decided he would strike out on his own–he rented a cabin in the woods with his friends, and recorded the debut Bahamas album, entitled Pink Strat. This album would be nominated for Juno award and for the Polaris music prize, announcing that there was a major new presence in Canadian folk music.

In 2012, Bahamas won several Juno awards for his sophomore follow up Barchords, only confirming that this is an artist who is here to say. Now, in support of his most recent release Bahamas is Afie, in 2014, Bahamas is playing bigger and better shows, that are selling out all over the world. With every release he gains more confidence in his musical identity, and in turn his fanbase grows.

As of yet, no opener has been announced for the show, though it seems unlikely it will stay that way. This is a great chance to see an artist who doesn’t tour all that often, and tickets aren’t likely to last. They went on sale this past week, so get yours soon, before it’s too late!
