Ariel Pink w/ Jack Name @ Terminal 5 2/25

Ariel Pink is playing at Terminal 5 in New York today, and there are still tickets available for those who may be curious how/if his new album will transfer to the stage. Ariel has a mixed track record (to say the least) when it comes to live performance and this may be why there are still tickets to see this artist whose recorded work has stood out as some of the best since his breakthrough in 2009. Often times, he has been known to play one or two songs before being unable to continue, and has left many a fan with a bitter taste in their mouth.

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti burst onto the scene with his album Before Today, but in actuality he had been making music in the basements of Los Angeles for some time, releasing a series of odd-ball demo tapes until eventually someone from Animal Collective heard his music and helped it find the right hands. Always willing to take chances, he released his latest album Pom Pom late last year, and it is his boldest, most daring foray into the underbelly of recycled pop music yet. As always, he will be backed by a lineup of stellar instrumentalists, who are worth the price of admission alone.

Jack Name is a glam-pop singer/songwriter from Los Angeles who has been making music for sometimes, but he has gained increased exposure over his two most recent releases: Weird Moons and Light Show. For fans of Ariel Pink, he couldn’t be a more complimentary opener; his music has great hooks, mystical lyrics, and a good dose of mid-70’s androgyny and peculiarity.
