With a new album on the way this year, The Darkness has produced an official video to accompany one of their newest songs. It’s a work of art that you have to see for yourself.
English metal band The Darkness has just released the official video for their new song, “Barbarian.” The track will be featured on their upcoming album titled Last of our Kind has also just been announced to be released on June 1 of this year. This will be their 4th studio album following Hotcakes in 2012, which pushed the band much farther forward and got them on tour with Lady Gaga during her European and African tours. Lead guitarist Dan Hawkins is responsible for recording their newest album in its entirety.
This video is an interesting project that is modeled in the style of a graphic novel. According to The Darkness, the lyrics are meant to describe the Viking invasion of East Anglia as well as the beheading of Edmund the Martyr. Last of our Kind is expected to be a massive project that takes is reportedly more simplistic than previous works by the band, but is by no means any less powerful. This stylistic choice was entirely necessary according to lead singer and guitarist, Justin Hawkins. The sound of the entire album has been described by the band as a variation of medieval rock with unique mandolin elements alongside a heavy exploration of “the days of old.”
The Darkness has recently parted ways with their original drummer, Ed Graham, due to health complications and an inability to perform. He has been replaced by Emily Dolan Davies, who the band comments has provided a youthful energy to the entire project. Revitalized after this recent transition, The Darkness is planning on making big moves in 2014.
