Marina and the Diamonds are promoting their third album, Froot, which will come out on April 6th. They have released a simple new video for this mid-tempo ballad. Check it out below!
In what has been so far described as a considerably “reflective” and “happy” new album, that is a departure from her previous wave-lengths on The Family Jewels and Electra Heart, the Welsh singer is bounce through the bountiful orchards of semi-auto-reinvetion, as she arrives at the end of the first leg of a trip to evolve her sound. That end is Froot.
The video is sparse and filmed in some sort of hallway stage setting covered in mirrors, where Marina is centered around what is perhaps an homage to her band’s name, the twinkling lights of a thousand diamonds glittering all around as she sings emotively and simply. At first there is just her, and as the different instruments come in, we get shots of the hands that play them: a Nord synthesizer, a brush stick on a snare, a fingerpicked acoustic guitar.
While this simplicity works well aesthetically, the visual becomes more of a transfixion rather than a journey due to the non-evolution of the camera angles. This, however, leaves us to focus on Marina and her voice and her immaculate skin for this entire four minutes and fifty seconds of confession and lament.
There is another video out from the album, for the song “Immortal”. She has also collaborated with Charlie XCX recently.
