Have you ever seen a super group so action packed as this one? Needless to say the single just released by The Singles, “Candy,” is a sweet treat for your ears.
It might not seem like a big deal, but this groups has some serious girl power to it.
Scarlett Johansson, well known in Hollywood for her movie star status, has dabbled in the music industry. She collaborated with Justin Timberlake in 2007 on “What Goes Around… Comes Around.” This led to an album of Tom Waits covers with one original song called Anywhere I Lay my Head. Since then, the star has only done covers or collaborations.
Holly Miranda is known for her band “The Jealous Girlfriends” and her self trained guitar and trumpet playing on top of her piano playing
Kendra Morris is known for her participation in Fuse TV’s Redemption Song television show and her premiere album Banshee.
Julia Haltigan is known for her 2012 album My Green Heart, her EP “Magneto,” and the extensive talent that she has opened for like Norah Jones and Montgomery Gentry.
Este Haim is known for her band of sisters “Haim,” where she plays guitar and bass as well as playing MC for the group’s performances.
Enough about the powerhouse ladies of The Singles, let’s focus on this new single. “Candy” was produced by Dave Sitek, who had worked in Johansson in the past, and released on his label Federal Prism.
The upbeat, “super pop” electronic beat with interlude like guitar and well blended vocals makes this a great song for any dance mood you find yourself in.
“I would say it’s super-pop…the idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls…I love Grimes. And I love the Bangles. And I love the Go-Go’s. I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke” said Johansson.
