WATCH: Faith No More Debut New Song “Cone of Shame” Live In Japan

Faith No More have debuted a third new song in anticipation of their upcoming album, Sol Invictus, out May 19th.

Live in Japan, Faith No More debuted their new song “Cone of Shame,” the second preview to their new album Sol Invictus.

Their first single, “Motherfucker,” was the band’s first new release in a whopping seventeen years, and was released as a 7″ vinyl on Record Store Day. Keyboardist Ruddy Bottom called the song,

“A song about accountability. Basically we’ve created, recorded and mixed a new body of work by ourselves and we’re releasing it on our own label. It’s a huge deal for us to only have ourselves to answer to at this point in our career and the song is about that, where the buck stops via the basic imagery of foie gras production, bondage… y’know, stuff like that.”

In November, the band played a surprise show at Ameoba Records in San Francisco, close to where they recorded their new album in Oakland, and have since released 2015 Spring tour dates.

There has been a lot of speculation about the content of the new album Sol Invictus, and if the band can stay true to itself after such a long haitus, to which bassist Bill Gould responded,

“Although the band hasn’t released new material since 1997’s Album of the Year, Gould says that any new material the band makes will always sound like them, and will always be hard to pinpoint. Gould stated, “What I can say is that I think through our experience as musicians over the years, I think what we’re doing reflects where we’ve gone since we made our last record as Faith No More..”

“Cone of Shame” reveals a metaphor of lost love, as lead singer Mike Patton croons, “You’re only happy when you’re pissing me off.” The new song is sure to rouse Faith No More fans with anticipation for Sol Ivictus, which will be released on May 19th.
