Local H Reveal The Story Behind Their Band Name For The First Time

Chicago-bred Local H unveil the true story behind their band’s name after 25 years.

Local H, the two-man band comprised of guitarist/bassist Scott Lucas and drummer Ryan Harding, recently revealed the origin of their band name via the band’s Facebook page. After 25 years, the band has finally dismissed the multiple false theories that have surfaced and have officially given a concrete answer:

“[The band’s name is] an REM tribute by way of Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd got their name by combining the first names of two blues artists –Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. We decided to take that idea and apply it to two REM songs: “Oddfellows Local 151” and “Swan Swan H” (incidentally, that also helps to explain Scott’s Twitter handle). And it’s that simple. Wish it was a better story.”

And there you have it, folks. Inspired by rock revolutionaries Pink Floyd, the Local H name stemmed from the combination of two REM songs.

Watch out for Local H’s forthcoming album Hey, Killer out on April 4, 2015 via G&P Records and subsequent spring tour in support of the record. Tickets for most shows will go on sale Friday, February 20. The record will be “a non-stop blast of straight-up, hooky, guitar-heavy rock songs — each one catchier than the last,” raves the band’s Facebook page.
