Discover why 1985 was a good year when you listen to the new Passion Pit song, which is off the looming album, Kindred which will come out it April.
The light yet anthemic formula with which Michael Angelakos and company stir up their fist pumping head shaking I-don’t-care-who-just-texted-me-cause-I’m-dancing-too-hard has returned with the single off of their next album, which will be put out in April by Columbia Records.
Passion Pit formed in 2007 after Angelakos created a solo EP as a Valentines day gift for his girlfriend of the time. He played several shows around the Boston area and was approached by Ian Hultquist, who wanted to start writing with Angelakos. Unfortunately, the original line up no longer exists, but that hasn’t stop the release of two albums, both of which have garnered some serious attention throughout the international music charting system. Gossamer, which was released in 2012, hit number 2 for both US Alternative and US Rock categories. Their song “Where I Come From” was featured in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 2
Their new song offers the same layered painting of grandiloquent instrumentation that reaches a synergy that almost makes each instrument into one beating heart of happy and divulging, honest music. In the video, there is an unblinking child pondering the camera, not focused on the dinner that goes on behind him; his kindred are digging in while he is contemplating the repercussions of something serious…or melancholy, or something that no one really knows about. The slow motion time lapse in the background really juxtaposes the feel of the song weirdly with the visual experience. The song is very high energy and moves forward at a breakneck speed through synth driven slow breaks and back all the way through choruses and refrains of the greatness of the year, and the inspection of how this year was different from others, where at the beginning of every “new year”, the singer feels the same.
The new album, Kindred, will surely include more spiraling electronica, kaleidoscopes of scintillating music and heavy pop beats that will without a doubt get the masses itching to the dance floor to hit the dance floor once that end of school bell rings.
