In support of his forthcoming album Carrie & Lowell, Sufjan Stevens will tour North America beginning in April, with his NYC show taking place at Kings Theatre on May 1st and 2nd. No opener has been announced for the show as of yet, but you can be sure this one will be big for Stevens, who is now a Brooklyn resident.
Sufjan Stevens is an artist never afraid to cover new ground, or to push himself to try something different. This past year saw him collaborate for a second time with the Brooklyn of Academy of Music on a project called Round-Up, which was an instrumental accompaniment to slow-motion rodeo footage. He had previously collaborated with BAM on a programmatic tone poem dedicated to the BQE.
Stevens’ latest album is one of love and love lost, of lives spent together and apart, and of life and death. It is named for his mother and stepfather, Carrie and Lowell. Though it will not available until the end of March, it is widely anticipated to be another milestone and watermark in a career that continues to evolve and push the boundaries of folk music, and music in general.
