LISTEN: Katy Goodman Releases New Demos For “Love That’s Gone,” “Running Wild” And “Please Be My Third Eye”

This week, La Sera’s Katy Goodman released three new demo recordings of her songs “Love That’s Gone,” “Running Wild”, and “Please Be My Third Eye”.

On February 11th, 2015, she announced on Twitter that the demos were available to listen to on her SoundCloud account, and provided links to the three songs.

“Running Wild” is an up-tempo demo that is driven by an incredibly catchy guitar line, which underpins Goodman’s vocals. Lyrically, the story seems to be about a person that lives for the night, but finds him or herself adrift in the world, despite the changing of seasons. So, in order to reconnect to the things that really matter, the “only place left to go is home.”

Goodman’s demo of this song comes in at just under two minutes. Additionally, on SoundCloud, she’s included the chord progressions in the verses and the chorus, presumably for fans that are musically inclined, and others who just know exactly what she’s playing. The verse is: Emin / G / Emin / Emaj, C / Amin / Emin / Emaj, and the chorus is: C / Amin / Emin / G.

In contrast to the catchy guitar in “Running Wild”, the newly released demo of “Love That’s Gone” features a heavily distorted rhythm lead guitar part, and a slightly clearer lead electric guitar line that appears later in the track. Unfortunately, in this particular demo version, it maybe be harder for some listeners to grasp on the message of the song, due to the distortion. But, a strength of the track is the multilayered tracks of Goodman harmonizing with herself. And, when taken together as a whole, the distortion and the multilayered harmonies create a dreamy arrangement of “Love That’s Gone.”

Lastly, Goodman released the demo of “Please Be My Third Eye”. This track features multilayered vocals like “Love That’s Gone”, but it is a much brighter or positive sounding song. The guitar that underpins Goodman’s layered vocals is melodious, and compliments her singing. The lyrics of “Please Be My Third Eye” seem to imply that the narrator is asking – in this case – her significant other to enlighten her from the darkness so that she can share delight or happiness with that person. And, the song gradually fades out with a ringing electric guitar line that will stay with the listener long after it is over.

Apart from releasing these demos and keeping an active social media presence, Goodman and La Sera been busy crafting a text-driven video game for their fans. “La Sera Is Lost” centers around the band giving a concert in Los Angeles, but struggling to find their way to the stage. “La Sera Is Lost” is available for Mac and PC.
