Members of Tool and Mastodon have come together to form the new supergroup, The Legend Of The Seagullmen. The group features Mastondon frontman Brent Hinds, Tool drummer Danny Carey, OFF!’s Dimitri Coats.
The group also contains movie director Jimmy Hayward, who will act as the project’s producer. According to Consequence of Sound, it is unclear whether this collaboration will be one time or if it will last for a while.
The Legend of the Seagullmen have released two songs through their website. Following in line with their nautical theme, their songs are titled “The Deep-Sea Driver” and “Ships Wreck”. Both of these songs have very different feels that encompass each of the bands that have come together to form the group. According to The Rolling Stone, The Legend of the Seagullmen has a vintage feel. “The Deep-Sea Diver” has a subtle western vibe in the background. On the other hand, “Ships Wreck” encompasses more of a sci-fi vibe throughout the three minute and fifty-four track.
Aside from the formation of this new group, Tool and Mastodon have recently appeared in the news. After eight years of hiatus, Tool’s webmaster announced that their latest album is almost complete. The band blames copyright issues as the cause of their lack of motivation to complete their album. As for Mastodon, the group has announced that they will be performing in some upcoming festivals during spring 2015. These festivals include, co-headlining for The Missing Link tour and performing in Shaky Knees.
Fans can listen to “The Deep-Sea Diver” and “Ships Wreck” on The Legend of the Seagullmen’s official website. Any further updates and information concerning the band can also be found on their website or Facebook page.
