Built To Spill Announce New Album Untethered Moon For April 2015 Release

For the first time in six years, Built To Spill will be getting into the studio to record tracks for a brand new record set to release this April.

Built To Spill has been on the recording lamb for the better part of the last six years, their last solid record being 2009’s There Is No Enemy, quite a silent period for a band that has influenced groups such as Modest Mouse, The Strokes, and Death Cab For Cutie. While the reason for the indie rocker’s hiatus remains a bit of a mystery, there’s some comfort in the knowledge that their eighth album, Untethered Moon will be out for all within earshot to enjoy this April. The announcement of the record comes on the heels of their confirmed appearance at this year’s Shaky Knees Festival, and follows rather successful Summer Tour that went down in 2014.

Built To Spill was initially formed in 1992 by guitarist/vocalist Doug Martsch, Brett Neston, and Ralf Youtz. In the group’s twenty-three year history, they have released seven other records, yet haven’t been the kind of consistent group that you would expect. While they have toured extensively for most of their career, the group has been known to go through periods of down time, allowing the individual members to pursue solo endeavors or other projects that don’t necessarily require the full group’s input. Despite the “on again, off again” status that the group has maintained throughout the years, their particular brand of indie rock has inspired many of today’s biggest artists. Untethered Moon will be out for release this coming April. They are also going to be on the road this Spring for a few tour dates to promote the new record.

Doug Farrell: Am I a hip old lady that can hip-hop, be-bop, dance 'til you drop, and yo-yo make a wicked hot cup of co-co? No, but I am a struggling twenty-eight year old writer who loves music and writing about music.
