An enthralled Sayers Club crowd gathered around the stage on Jan. 28 for Puro Instinct’s opening set as part of the Red Bull Sound Select Presents: Los Angeles showcase. While fans sat on couches, gathered on the floor and enjoyed the venue’s exposed brick ambiance, the Los Angeles natives played a short set and introduced fans to their evolved sound, featuring tracks from their upcoming album.
While last year at the Echo saw sisters Piper and Sky Kaplan in basic black singing sweet-sounding indie pop, their latest stage iteration seemed to be something out of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Complete with an equal helping of musical whimsy in the form of ethereal synthesizer and fanciful vocal melodies, Puro Instinct continues their transformation of the LA music scene with their own unique style and sound, while evoking images of musical icons from the 70s and 80s.
