Rhiannon Giddens Announces Spring 2015 Tour Dates

Rhiannon Giddens has announced she’s embarking on a tour in the spring of 2015. Giddens – a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who’s also a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops – will be touring in support of her upcoming debut solo album, “Tomorrow Is My Turn”, which is due out on February 10th, 2015.

In December 2014, Giddens released “Black Is the Color”, as an instant download for fans that pre-order “Tomorrow Is My Turn.” The title “Black Is The Color” may sound familiar, because it is a traditional song that has been covered by the likes of American jazz singer Nina Simone, and legendary folk musicians Pete Seeger and Joan Baez, along with a number of Irish artists like Christy Moore, Karan Casey, Susan McKeown, and The Corrs.

Apart from her solo commitments, Giddens is a member of The New Basement Tapes, a folk super-group that has come together to record and release songs penned by Bob Dylan during his “Basement Tapes” sessions, but later misplaced and never actually recorded by Dylan, himself. The group consists of Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford, Jim James, Rhiannon Giddens and Taylor Goldsmith. They have performed live in concert with Haim and Johnny Depp, amongst others. And, most recently, the core members appeared and performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Listen to The New Basement Tapes’ “Spanish Mary” and “Liberty Street”, and check out video of the group performing “Six Months In Kansas City” from the T Bone Burnett-produced album, “Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes“.

Additionally, Giddens was recently featured in the series finale of Parenthood, where she sang Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” alongside Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam, according to a press release. And, keep an eye out for Giddens to make her solo television debut when she performs “Waterboy” from “Tomorrow Is My Turn” on CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman on February 10th, 2015.

Giddens will kick off her tour on March 28th at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee, and she will continue to wind her way through many regions and cities in the States, before wrapping up this tour with a performance at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Telluride, Colo., in mid-June.
