Dwight Yoakum Announces New Album Second Hand Heart For April 2015 Release

Country music legend Dwight Yoakum has announced a new album Second Hand Heart, his first release in three years.

Dwight Yoakam is set to release his self-produced fourteenth album Second Hand Heart on April 14th. The album was engineered and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge, who also co-produced three tracks on the album.

The new album has two covers, Anthony Crawford’s “V’s of Birds” and “Man of Constant Sorrow,” with the rest of the songs written by Yoakam.

Dwight Yoakam brought “honky tonk” music to LA, where he blew up in the 80s, selling 25 million albums during the course of his career, which includes 12 gold albums and 21 Grammy nominations.

This year, at the 57th annual Grammy Awards, seasoned Yoakam will be performing with Best New Artist nominee Brandy Clark.

Yoakam debuted the title-track single off his upcoming album at Rolling Stone. The song deals with with two “weary warriors” who try to fall in love again. Yoakam told Rolling Stone,

“It’s borne of a fictional conversation with somebody. She said, ‘When I trusted in love, I dreamed in color too.” I remember [being] in my house, singing it out loud and I thought, ‘Who is this and why did she say that?’. . .  and staring off into space and thinking, ‘Who’s the poor guy who’s obviously smitten with the idea of the two of them?’ There’s a lot of that in the album, without it being by design, about surviving to relive hopefulness.”

Yoakam has also had a successful acting career, staring in the films Sling Blade, Panic Room, and having a cameo in Wedding Crashers in 2005.

You can catch Dwight Yoakam at the 57th Grammy Awards, and in the meantime, you can listen to the title-track off his upcoming album Second Hand Heart, here.
