Kaki King just announced her next album titled The Neck Is A Bridge To The Body. Her continued work as a solo instrumentalist included ingenuity with the creation of this album for intimate multimedia performances.
King is known for her strong affinity to blend her acoustic music with a message or theme, in part due to her Synesthesia. She also has been noticed for being very open and honest about her music, perception of her music, and in her discovery of her artistic musical style.
“Although it’s a soundtrack to the multimedia show, I want the album to stand on it’s own as a collection of instrumental music,”
“The album is an amalgam of the many different ways I’ve approached the instrument over the years. Some of it’s rough, some of it’s sad and beautiful, and some of it could be remixed for the dance floor. More than anything the process of creating this music has proven to me once again that the guitar really does the speaking, and I’m just the interpreter.”
King is well known for her 6th studio album, Glow, and also focused on the instrumental influence with that album. The focus then was on blending her acoustic style with that of the string quarter ETHEL.

King also included a video of track number ten. Although the audio a bet disrupted by how loud the performance is, you can still hear and grasp the intensity of her work. The common use of arpeggiation of chords and driving rhythms gives the song more life. This video is a great example of the goal outcome of her work on the performance, and relating the music to her synesthesia which is where one also ‘sees’ the color and intensity of the audio and music.
