Alice In Chains MTV Unplugged Performance Now Available To Stream On Qello

MTV Unplugged is a series showcasing artists while they play acoustic sets of their popular songs. It began in 1989, and in 1996, grunge band Alice in Chains performed on the show.

The appearance was the first concert by Alice in Chains in three years and it was the band’s only appearance with five members. They played hits like “Rooster” and “Down in a Hole,” as well as introducing a new song titled “Killer is Me.” The performance was one of lead vocalist Layne Staley’s last, as the band no longer performed often, and he died from a mixture of heroin and cocaine in 2002.

The concert by these grunge rockers is considered one of the best and most memorable MTV Unplugged ever aired. A live album of that performance was released in 1996, along with a home video release; both went platinum.
