Trickfinger – that’s the new Frusciante and the new music John has been working on. And new here is TOTALLY NEW.
As reported by residentadvisor.net, John Frusciante has dived deeply into the electronica, and his “experimental acid house” eponymous album is due to be released April 7 via Acid Test.
Moreover, John’s passion for electronic music has born almost a decade ago, and his latest solo LP “Enclosure” was not the first swallow:
“I started being serious about following my dream to make electronic music, and to be my own engineer, five years ago. For the 10 years prior to that, I had been playing guitar along with a wide range of different types of programmed synthesizer and sample-based music, emulating what I heard as best as I could. I found that the languages machines forced programmers to think in had caused them to discover a new musical vocabulary…
In 2007, I started to learn how to program all the instruments we associate with acid house music and some other hardware. [Since then] I had lost interest in traditional songwriting and I was excited about finding new methods for creating music. I’d surround myself with machines, program one and then another and enjoy what was a fascinating process from beginning to end…”
Al least, we hope Frusciante’s acid house initiative won’t hurt his Kimono Kult collaboration with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Teri Gender Bender.
The album opener “After Below” which can be listened via Soundcloud, sounds a lot more like Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross movie soundtracks than traditional John Frusciante we used to know, but definitely is a worthy composition.
