An invite-only crowd at LA’s chic Sonos Studio enjoyed a listening party with local indie folk-pop band Milo Greene on January 15. Moderated by KCRW’s Anne Litt, members of the band discussed their new album “Control” before performing an acoustic set.
Each member of Milo Greene considers him or herself a band leader with everyone pitching in to write the new album. “We’re democratic to a fault,” said Robbie Arnett. “We have to figure out who does what best.”
This doesn’t mean the band didn’t have help with the new album. Producer Jesse Shatkin – whose prior credits include Foster the People and Ellie Goulding – recorded Milo Greene at his home studio in Highland Park. The result, according to Andrew Heringer, is “a street record; an ode to LA.” Marlana Sheetz said that compared to their self-titled first album, “Control” is “more up tempo with more pop but it’s all the same shit.”
Fifth member Curtis “Tron” Marrero joined the band onstage for a short set then audience members listened through “Control” on the Sonos Studio speakers while sipping moonshine. The new album will be released Tuesday.
