Alden Penner on his own is a lot less dream pop-y and lo-fi than with Unicorns, who recently reunited and reissued their 2003 hit album. He is rather largely psychedelic and even cosmic. Because there is no other explanation for a nine-minute self-titled meditation.
Featuring pleasantly monotonous bass line guest vocals from Michael Cera and 12-year-old Felix Tymoshenko, “Meditate” is a lot more of a Jim Morrison resurrection than a modern track, only with singing instead of Jim’s meditative rants. In one word – Amazing, listen for yourself below.
As reported by Pitchfork, Michael Cera previously worked with Penner’s Unicorns bandmate Nick Thorburn, including in the band Mister Heavenly. Well, his collaboration with Alden turned out to be just stunning.
