Right Where Above & Beyond Belongs
It’s been almost 9 years since Above & Beyond released their debut album, and they have found a very specific niche in the music industry. They have managed to make a name for themselves among those who enjoy dance music, specifically in a club scene. The trend is continued with their latest album, We Are All We Need. Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki have found their place in the electronic music world and this album is sure to bring them further success.
The album’s opener is “Quieter is Louder,” an appropriate title for the mellow sounding track. “We’re All We Need” starts with soft vocals courtesy of Zoë Johnston then progresses into an explosive dance track. Another Johnston track that follows the same pattern is “We Could Fly To New York.” Both tracks evolve into ideal songs to simply dance away all your problems to.
The album’s single, “All Over The World” is sung by Alex Vargas. Vargas has a distinctive voice that stands out on multiple tracks throughout this album. He has a voice that expresses incredibly emotional lyrics, but his voice remains strong and consistent with every song he sings. For example, “Making Plans” is another Vargas song that has beautiful lyrics. “Then we lost ourselves in that orange glowing moment,” declares the singer.
Altogether, We Are All We Need finds strength with its guest vocalists, each of whom have powerful voices and are talented artists in their own right. “Little Something” and “Counting Down The Days,” are two tracks with fairly simple lyrics, but they manage to strike a chord nonetheless.
Above & Beyond takes listeners on an emotional roller coaster song after song. For example, one track seems like the type of song one listens to when they just want to chill out. The next song will then be the type of song listeners want to dance around for hours listening to. This is the kind of music Above & Beyond release – songs that are up, then down, then up again. This is their strength; it’s what sets them apart from everyone else in electronic music. We Are All We Need is a memorable album due to the trio’s unique approach to the music they produce.
