Saint Pepsi Forced to Change His Name to Skylar Spence for Legal Reasons

After catching the attention of the beverage company, Saint Pepsi (born Ryan DeRobertis) has been forced to change his stage name to Skylar Spence for legal reasons.

Following a transition from underground stalwart to festival standout, the obligatory change of his name was perhaps inevitabile. As initially reported by Stereogum, DeRobertis’s new alter ego is taken from the name of Drew Berrymore’s character in the Woody Allen musical-comedy Everyone Says I Love You. DeRobertis and label Carpark Records even released a trailer featuring footage from the movie to announce the name change, which you can watch below.

All this happens in light of the recent attention that the musician has been generating, for instance releasing a remix of Drake’s “Worst Behavior” late last year. Saint Pepsi was also just announced for Alabama’s Hang Out Festival, meaning the sudden name change might infuriate some poster printers.

See the trailer below, featuring new music from the newly christened Skylar Spence.
