Wow, this new track is one for the books. With a smooth and heavily produced beat from none other than master producer Vinylz, and an inspiringly honest verse by J. Cole, whose slick introduction is simply two stylish words (Cole and World), this one certainly has what it takes to upset the charts and challenge rap’s conventions. It’s stunningly unabashed lyrical content and imagery take popular rap’s wordplay all the way up to cruising altitude: “Cant nobody see you, 30,000 feet, on your knees in them Prada’s, making freaky shit come up out her”
The rapper chose to release this new official track because a version leaked, and he wanted to make sure the official version was out there for everyone to listen to.
And listen they have! Audiomack has over 45,000 plays for the new tune, which asks questions like “I got you in the air, your body in the air, how it feel up there?”, and “would you like it better if I hit the west coast?”. As lyrics often do, some of Jeremih’s lines offer us some bitter truths, such as “You can scream as loud as you want and as loud as you can, and ain’t nobody gon’ hear it” The esteemed J. Cole makes keen observations such as “Y’aint babysitting, but my kids all on yo’ couch”, and deftly alludes to his degree with “oh, you nasty, oh, oh you nasty, both graduated so fuck keepin’ it classy”. Cole challenges the listener with tough questions as well, such as “Who you know make waves in a low tide?” He reassures the subject of the song at the end of his cameo verse by saying “If you scared of heights, shit I got a pill I could feed you”.
