WATCH: Parkay Quarts Release New Video For “Pretty Machines”

“Parquet Courts” apparently wants to be known as “Parkay Quarts.” For now, anyhow. With their bassist and drummer taking a brief sabbatical from the group, Parkay Quarts has released a video for their new single, “Pretty Machines.”

Who says old school film techniques have no place in modern music? Parkay Quarts have incorporated the use of double exposures in their new video for “Pretty Machines.” The video is a bit sparse, as it shows a dual imagery of Austin Brown going about his everyday life. One of the more telling moments of the video happens when Brown composes some sort of a list in his kitchen, the last two items of which read “Do it again tomorrow.” Evidently, when Brown isn’t out making fantastic records with Parquet Courts, he’s just your Average Joe. He struggles to get up in the morning, brushes his teeth after breakfast, sips tea while writing, and dons a fake mustache before heading out for the day. All in all, a normal day for a guy who’s the crucial member of Parquet Courts.

2014 ended with a bang for Parquet Courts after the release of Sunbathing Animal, and their performance at the Sasquatch Music Festival. They quickly released follow-up record called Content Nausea, and have sporadically released singles with the new moniker of Parkay Quarts. The name change is but a temporary side project for the band, as two of their members have had to step away from the group to pursue individual endeavors, yet however temporary the move may be, it may signal that a new musical change is going to come for the group, as Content Nausea was “a bit punchier and more casual than the great Sunbathing Animal,” according to Stereogum.

Doug Farrell: Am I a hip old lady that can hip-hop, be-bop, dance 'til you drop, and yo-yo make a wicked hot cup of co-co? No, but I am a struggling twenty-eight year old writer who loves music and writing about music.
