Umphrey’s McGee is an American progessive rock band originally from South Bend, Indiana. Their music is often referred to as progressive improvisation of improg. They are heavily influenced by progressive rock artists including King Crismon, Yes, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, Genesis, Guns N’ Roses, The Police, and many more. They incorporate many genres including rock, metal, funk, jazz, blues, electronic, bluegrass, and folk.
Their debut album, Greatest Hits Vol. III, was released in 1998. Though long out of print, the album contains songs that remain staples of Umphrey’s live sets, such as “Divisions,” “Phil’s Farm,” “FF,” and “All in Time.” More recently, the band debuted their idea of Headphones and Snowcones, a program available at their concerts which provides a soundboard feed delivered to a set of headphones via wireless receiver.
Their most recent album, Similar Skin, was released in the summer of 2014. This was their first album to be released on their new music label Nothing Too Fancy.
