A previously-unseen Beastie Boys video from the band’s last LP in 2011 has been unearthed by a fan.
A Beastie Boys fan has uncovered never-before-seen video for the band’s collaboration with Nas on 2011’s “Too Many Rappers.” The track was featured on the Beastie Boys’ final LP Hot Sauce Committee Part Two.
Last year the band endured a court battle against the Monster Beverage Corp., which settled in a copyright lawsuit win that earned the Beastie Boys’ $1.7 million. The case focused on the corporation’s use of a “Beastie Boys Megamix” featuring five Beastie Boys songs to endorse a show in 2012 without the band’s permission. Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch, who passed away in 2012, explicitly stated in his will that his “likeness or art, including work with the Beastie Boys, was not to be used for advertising purposes.
A judge refused to dismiss the original verdict in December 2014. NME explains, “US District Judge Paul Engelmayer said there was ‘ample basis’ to believe that the video could have made viewers assume it was endorsed by the hip-hop group. Monster’s lawyer Reid Kahn responded in an email, saying they intended to appeal the decision. ‘We disagree with the court’s decision and the jury verdict and we intend to appeal.’”
The trial brought forth the band’s official announcement of the end of the band, explaining their promise to the late MCA that they would refrain from creating new music after he passed away.
