In a continuing collaboration between Mark Ronson and Kevin Parker that has become the highlight of the new Ronson album, Uptown Special, Parker takes his place behind the mic. The result is a great psychedelic yet poppy headbanger with some rad fuzzy riffs.
Kevin Parker’s presence on Uptown Special has, until this point, been a purely collaborative effort to the producing and mixing side of the new Mark Ronson album, due out on the impending thirteenth day of 2015. With “Leaving Los Feliz”, that story changes as Kevin is handed the mic. The Tame Impala sound is there in the vocal effects, with their different filters and heavy reverb sensibility, and this creates a fluency between the hip-hop beat and the burly fuzztone riffs reminiscent of a 60s simplicity straight out of swinging London, or more acutely, four guys with similar haircuts from back then..Nonetheless, the inclusion of the the breakbeat hip-hop style drum machine really gives it a uniqueness and authenticity to our day in age, where the secret formula seems to come from the amalgamation of old and new, timeless and unheard.
It’s a carefree and catchy track, and coupled with other tracks like “Daffodils”, and “Uptown Funk“, the new album is bound to be extremely listenable, and eclectic. The album is streaming and will be released tomorrow for physical purchase.
