A four piece from the UK who have earned themselves wild acclaim in the last six years have released a new and original single, which is catchy without being campy! Give it a listen.
Hailed by The Guardian, Q, Mojo and others, the rising act from London, with only one album and a couple singles under their belts have sprung back onto the scene with a new track. Their eponymous album, released in 2012 from Because Music, went platinum in France, and lead to performances on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, a huge FM radio presence, as well as performances at Bonnaroo, Central Park Summer Stage, Fuji Rock and Glastonbury. They have continued to sell out shows on coast to coast tours of North America.
“First Light” is part of the next step in their journey on the road of commercial musical success, which follows ever on down from the door where it began with their high acclaim from Rolling Stone, and Mercury Prize.
It begins with Tommy Grace, the band’s designated synth operator, rolling out some minor arpeggiated fat toned bass lines, over which soon arrive the sometimes seemingly ubiquitous clap tone snare hit that accompanies the synth often these days. As the cutoff tones roll back and forth, bringing with it that smooth alternating switch off of muffled to excited synth rock waveforms, Vincent Neff sings of discovering beaches under the cement and picturing a future greener than money spent as we move towards the chorus, which is also very synth heavy and makes you want to shake what you’ve got on some Birmingham dance floor. The vocal melodies are soaring, and work well over the background soundscape.
It is as yet unclear as to whether or not the song will foreshadow a new album release, but for now, it is certainly enough to keep us guessing. Check it out below.
