The punk trifecta that is the Scremaing Females have announced their sixth upcoming record, Rose Mountain. To promote the new record, they have also seen fit to post a new video for “Criminal Image,” a single off of the new record.
The Screaming Females are evidently big on dental hygiene, as the new video for “Criminal Image” features clips of an activity which can only be described as anything but criminal: members of the group brushing and/or flossing their teeth. Creative leader Marissa Paternoter recently underwent a barrage of doctor’s office visits as a result of contracting mono back in 2013, a diagnosis which put the group’s creative abilities on hold for quite some time. Her experiences with various hospitals and clinics provided the inspiration for many of the song’s lyrics and indeed the content of the record itself. It is curious, though, that Screaming Females would elect to saturate their latest video with the most basic of medical practices. Whether an accident by design, or an ironic commentary on society’s willingness to follow doctor’s orders to the letter, the video for “Criminal Image” is very basic, yet that makes for a nice pairing with the rather aggressive music and lyrical content of the song itself. Without question, the brief musical hiatus that the Screaming Females had to undertake seems to have benefited them on an artistic level surprisingly well.
The Screaming Females’ upcoming record, Rose Mountain is set for release this February. “Criminal Image” is the third single released off of the record since “Wishing Well” and “Empty Head”, which were released back in December.
