It’s always fabulous when the record isn’t made for money nowadays. It is hard to believe in, but sometimes people release music just to say ‘thank you,’ ‘goodbye’ or to let their feelings out. Here’s one of such records – cover album for Elliott Smith songs performed by Seth Avett and Jessica Lea Mayfield.
Seth Avett, a half of super successful folk rock band The Avett Brothers, one of the main acts at 2014’s major American music festivals – Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Austin City Limits and others, and Jessica Lea Mayfield, a singer/songwriter from Ohio, have decided to pay tribute to their soulmate – singer and songwriter Elliott Smith, who tragically died in 2003.
The album, set for release on March 17, 2015 via Ramseur Records, was produced by Seth Avett and recorded over the last three years mostly at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC. It includes some of Smith’s finest songs, defined by simple vocal harmonies, bare instrumentation, and an approach that takes its time.
According to the press release, Seth Avett and Jessica Lea Mayfield will tour in 2015 to support the album; dates will be announced shortly. It is said that the album itself is a gesture of musical gratitude for an original voice, one which so brilliantly whispered such beautiful melodies.
