Third Man Records has released Vault Package #23, which focuses on The White Stripes and the time they spent on tour in South America 10 years ago, in 2005.
The package includes double LP Under Amazonian Lights, which was recorded live in Manaus, Brazil, in 2005. The performance recorded was the first rock concert ever at Teatro Amazonas Opera House. It features a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Lovesick Blues,” two versions of “The Same Boy You’ve Always Known,” – one electric, one acoustic – two versions of “Passive Manipulation,” a snippet of Howlin Wolf’s “I Asked For Water” and ample marimba on “The Nurse.” Both LPs will be pressed on blood-red vinyl with stark black wisps.
Also included in the package is a DVD of the performance from the LPs. Among the highlights of the concert is the moment Jack and Meg left the venue to play an entirely unamplified version of “We Are Going to Be Friends” for the fans who couldn’t purchase tickets and were previously watching the performance via closed-circuit feed.
But wait – there’s more! There is a 7″ single of the Jack White solo track “Let You Down,” which was recorded in 2000. The B-side is a White Stripes instrumental entitled “Ain’t No Sweeter Than Rita Blues,” which was recorded during the making of Get Behind Me Satan, but ultimately didn’t make it onto that album. Grammy Award-winning designer Rob Jones put together a collection of newly-designed postcards for the package, celebrating the White Stripes’ 2005 performances in Brazil. He also created a death head monkey design that was turned into an enamel pin and also included in the Vault Package. Additionally, there is a silk-screened White Stripes poster with glow-in-the-dark graphics. Last, but not least, is a box that features the death head monkey design on the cover.
Jack White’s career hasn’t slowed down before or since the White Stripes. Case in point: his previous band The Upholsterers, who were actual furniture upholsterers, hid their second single in some cushions they were reupholstering. A couple copies were found in late 2014. More recently, White released successful solo album called Lazaretto, and a music video for the track “Would You Fight For My Love.”
