WATCH: The Vaselines Release New Video For “Crazy Lady”

Scottish rock duo The Vaselines have released a new video for the song “Crazy Lady.”

Scottish rock duo The Vaselines, composed of Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, have released a new video for the song “Crazy Lady,” off their latest album V for Vaselines. Directed by Jim Lang, the video is a film noir crime story that follows a dangerous woman with a feather duster and a hammer, played by McKee.

“Crazy Lady,” is off the band’s latest album and third studio release V for Vaselines, which was released on October 7th of this year.

The band originally consisted of the duo Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, and formed in Glasgow in 1986. They eventually added James Seenan on bass and Eugene’s brother Charlie Kelly on drums. In 1987 and 1988, The Vaselines released two EPs, Sun of a Gun and Dying for It. In 1990, they released their first album, Dum-Dum, on 53rd and 3rd Records, and subsequently broke up.

The Vaselines found fame when Nirvana covered their songs, as Kurt Cobain was a huge fan of the band, and even named his daughter after Frances McKee. The Vaselines briefly reunited in 1990 to open for Nirvana in Scotland. McKee and Kelly then moved on to solo pursuits throughout the 90s, and started playing together again in the mid-2000s.

The Vaselines’ second studio album, Sex with an X, was released via Subpop in 2010, and their latest album V for Vaselines, was released via Rosary Music.

The album features appearances by Michael McGaughrin of 1990s, Frank MacDonald of Teenage Fanclub, Stevie Jackson of Belle & Sebastian, Graeme Smillie of Olympic Swimmers, Paul Foley of Mandrake Shepard and Scott Paterson of Sons & Daughters, and was recorded in Glasgow.

Paste Magazine asked McKee about the future of The Vaselines, to which she replied,

“I mean there comes a point I guess where we might just say, “Oh, it’s not fun anymore.” But you’ll be hard-pushed to stop us, really. We’ll be rolling onstage in our wheelchairs, trying to play guitar, I’m pretty sure.

The Vaselines kicked off their European tour on November 15th, and will travel to the US for their 2-week North American tour in January.
