Four years after releasing, Familial, an unexpected debut album, Philip Selway (ex-Radiohead) returns with his sophomore record, Weatherhouse, which is out now via Bella Union. Most recently, he premiered a new music video for the song, “Around Again”.
The video for “Around Again” retains the dreamy, mystical nature that we’ve seen in Selway’s previous videos, such as “Coming Up For Air” and “It Will End In Tears“. Spanish film collective, NYSU, directed the video.
It opens with a spotlight on a woman laying on her stomach on an otherwise darkened stage. She stands and walks over to a mannequin wearing a navy blue jacket. After looking at the jacket, she keeps moving along the stage picking up and playing with various objects like bike or wheelchair tires, and glitter. Then, she begins dancing along her path, and eventually falls onto a mat. The cinematographers took this opportunity to have the actress change into a black leotard to perform a rhythmic gymnastics routine.
Following the routine, she continues moving and posing across the stage and going back through the obstacles she’d previously encountered. Each time, she crosses into a slightly altered setting, but this keeps the narrative visually interesting for the viewer, who is challenged to spot the changes as the camera continuously pans to the left.
