Folk and alt-country rockers Deer Tick have joined the holiday cheer bandwagon. They’re celebrating this holiday season by releasing a new single called, “White Havoc”.
This new track finds drummer Dennis Ryan stepping up and taking over vocal duties. Ryan’s vocal range fits this song, well. Musically, it has a mid-tempo pace, and is crafted in a way that makes it appear as though it could’ve been written in a different time in music history – the Brill Building era of the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, perhaps? Or, it may just have that vibe because of the ultra fuzzy low sound that permeates the layers of jazzy piano, xylophones, and jaded Christmas lyrics couched in a happy sounding melody.
Josh Terry of Consequence of Sound states in his article that, “this chime-laden ditty makes a compelling case for a new Christmas classic.” Is it bound to be a modern Christmas classic?
