LISTEN: Dave Grohl Releases 1992 Solo Demo For “Watered It Down”

High time for revelations from Dave Grohl. After exposing his previously unreleased demo “Hooker On The Street,” Allister Lobb (Grohl’s early moniker) is back with the 1992’s demo of what is to be called “Watered It Down.”

According to NME, track “Watered It Down” and others were unearthed by Foo Fighters producer Barrett Jones during the documentary show Sonic Highways, causing Grohl to hide his face in embarrassment. The documentary itself was part of Sonic Highways LP release, followed by Foo Fighters’ week-long David Letterman residence, and a series of fabulous collaborations.

Strictly instrumental, it’s a good ol’ grunge piece with a nominal verse and chorus, and recurrent guitar motive.

As noted by consequenceofsound.net, some have pointed out the track bears a resemblance to the Wasting Light track “Arlandria”. It wouldn’t be the first time an Allister Lobb song resurfaced, as “How I Miss You” eventually showed up on the B-side to the Foo Fighters single “I’ll Stick Around”.
