She & Him released their airy rendition of the Beach Boys’ classic “God Only Knows” in an episode of lead singer Zooey Deschanel’s hit tv series New Girl that aired this week. This version of the song is also now available in the iTunes store.
With Deschanel’s nonchalant crooning over the top of M. Ward’s haphazardly graceful strumming, She & Him’s cover seems like a natural fit in a number of cinematic situations. One could easily picture this competing with the Brian Wilson-penned original, putting She & Him miles ahead of other groups that have tried to make this beautiful song their own. May 7th of last year, She & Him released Volume 3 to positive reviews. Later that same month, the duo released video for “I Could’ve Been Your Girl,” which also elicited a positive response from their fan base.
