The latest video from the Wu-Tang Clan addresses the relevant social strife that has beset the United States in the past weeks, and uses clips of Obama’s recent speech regarding the lack of faith that many Americans harbor for our justice system. The clips of Obama addressing the nation set the stage for what the video and song are speaking to, and the refrain of the chorus make it clear that Wu-Tang Clan, along with many hundreds of thousands of American citizens, are thoroughly disgusted with the inaction regarding the “racist system” in our courts and on our streets. Scenes of burning squad cars in Ferguson and “die-in” protesters in New York City’s Grand Central Station juxtaposed with images of civil rights figureheads Malcom-X and Martin Luther King, Jr flow along with lyrical references to these figures and their doctrines of equality. This juxtaposition blatantly states the similarities between the Civil Rights movement and the inequality that our population is plagued with today; Wu-Tang Clan uses the best tools they have at their disposal to outline this ubiquitous situation of unrest and protest across America, and to implore their’s and everyone’s wish for better tomorrow.
