WATCH: Clipping Release New Video for “Get Up”

Los Angeles rap trio Clipping have released a haunting new video for the song “Get Up.” The video marks their third collaboration with Carlos Lopez Estrada (and first with co-director Cristina Bercovitz), though “Get Up” utilizes a decidedly more minimal approach than previous outings.

As reported by Stereogum, the video focuses on rapper Daveed Diggs throughout, with red light flashing across the screen to the alarm clock rhythm of the song as a blood stain grows across his shirt. For the choruses, Diggs is illuminated in pure white light, quivering before the viewer as he gazes upward. Especially in light of recent incidents of police brutality, like the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases, Clipping seem to be making a haunting political statement with the imagery they’ve chosen on “Get Up.”

Previously, the rap trio had collaborated with Carlos Lopez Estrada on the videos for “Work Work” and “Inside Out.”

“Get Up” is featured on the band’s experimental debut record CLPPNG, which was released on June 20 of this year. Prior to “Get Up,” Clipping had released video for the song “Story 2” off the same album.

Clipping also recently played Brooklyn’s Afropunk festival in late August.
