LISTEN: Purity Ring Releases New Song “Push”

In their first release in two years, Purity Ring has released a new song and video, an ethereal track called “Push.”

Purity Ring released their debut record, Shrines nearly two years ago and since then, the group has remained largely silent, leaving some listeners to wonder where the Canadian duo ran off to. Although details are still sketchy at best, we now have a new single and video from the group, and it sounds absolutely smashing. According to Paste Magazine, Purity Ring’s newest single brilliantly shows off how “Megan James still sings celestial and cascading over Corin Roddick’s still dark and punchy production.” While the production is reminiscent of the first record, the lyrics also play to a bit of a moody undercurrent, with fantastically bizarre lyrics such as “i built a constellation lair/out of the moles that hovered there/make a pardon of what knows/and climb up in me.”

Adding to the anticipation that the new single brings is the relative lack of information that Purity Ring has provided with the new single. Aside from lyrics to the song posted on Tumblr, there has been no word with regards to a new record or any new tour dates. If playing things close to the vest is their style, then Purity Ring has done their duty quite well. Hopefully, we can anticipate a new album sometime in the new year. For now, we only have that lyrics sheet and this video, and that will have to tide us over until then.
