WATCH: The Decemberists Release New Video for “Lake Song”

In anticipation of their album What a Terrible World, What Beautiful World available January 20, The Decemberists have released a new lyric video for their single “Lake Song.”

The song is something of a return to basics for the Decemberists, featuring mostly acoustic instrumentation set to a pining melody. The video plays up these changes with a decidedly pastoral backdrop, accented by the black and white footage. The band simply plays the song together while Colin Meloy’s literate lyrics take up the fore.

This song and its video represent something of a foil to the band’s previous single, Make You Better, which featured more electric instrumentation as well as a guest appearance from actor Nick Offerman in its music video.

Both of these singles will be featured on the upcoming album What Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, due out by January 20. The album will be the band’s first since 2011’s critically acclaimed The King Is Dead, which was also their first #1 album.

The band recently announced a slew of tour dates for Winter/Spring of 2015 to further promote the forthcoming album.
