Australian electro-pop duo Empire of the Sun has released a new song entitled “Wandering Star,” which will appear in the new film Dumb and Dumber To hitting theaters on December 19th.
According to NME, Empire of the Sun have released an infectious new single titled “Wandering Star.” The song takes the band’s trademark brash playfulness and marries it to morose melodies, though the driving rhythm is sure to give the song the dance club feel that long time fans have come to expect from the Australian duo.
In April of this year, Empire of the Sun released the similarly well received “Alive,” which also appeared on their award winning 2013 album Ice on the Dunes. “Wandering Star,” however, represents the first entirely new material to be released by the band in a little over a year.
Both singles are set to appear in the upcoming film Dumb and Dumber To, which will be released on December 19th.
Comprised of Luke Steel and Nick Littlemore, Empire of the Sun has been in the headlines a lot the past year. In particular, frontman Steel stirred up a lot of controversy by claiming that Ice on the Dune was better than Daft Punk’s 2013 record Random Access Memories, released a little less than a month before Empire of the Sun’s LP. According to Steel:
“I was aware that Daft Punk were getting more press coverage than our record, but I wasn’t too concerned. ‘Ice On The Dune’ is filled with such great songs that it’ll hang around a lot longer than some of those other records that came out around the same time. They had a great marketing campaign, but we’ve got better songs.”
