Hardcore punk band Off! have released a new video for the song “Over Our Heads,” which features LSD and Jack Black as a skydiving coach.
Hardcore punk supergroup Off! have released a music video for the song “Over Our Heads,” which features Jack Black going berserk as a skydiving coach. The video is part one of a two part series, with the second half being released next week.
The video is the second made by Off! starring Jack Black, he was also featured in the video for “Wrong,” in which he tore a guy’s organs out. Now, Jack Black is back and weirder than ever as an eccentric skydiving coach, teaching the band how to fly on Keith Morris’s 59th birthday.
Directed by Jimmy Hayward, the video features Jack Black as God, LSD, a viscous bear, and multiple decapitations. The second part of the video, for song “Meet Your God,” will be released next week.
Off! recently released their third studio album Wasted Years, in April of this year, by Vice Records. As with their previous releases, the band’s new album has sixteen tracks and Raymond Pettibon made the album art.
Formed in L.A. in 2009, the punk super group includes Circle Jerk/Black Flag singer Keith Morris, Burning Brides vocalist/guitarist Dimitri Coats, Redd Kross bassist Steven Shane McDonald, and Hot Snakes drummer Mario Rubalcaba. Coats formed the band with Morris after he produced an album for Circle Jerk, which ended up falling apart. They started writing a few songs together, which became Off!’s first album.
Anthony Kiedes of Red Hot Chili Peppers is a long time friend of Morris, and promotes the band at any opportunity, usually sporting an Off! hat during RHCP performances and in music videos.
After getting backlash for opening for big acts such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Flea, lead singer Morris told David Von Bader, “Anthony and Flea are my friends and if I want to go out and play shows with some of my friends, I’m going to… Those people may hate us, but maybe they’ll love us. There’s only one way to find out and that’s to do it.”
A band comprised of punk icons, Pitchfork said of the band, “They possess the ability to economize without even sounding like they’re trying, and although listening to the collection’s physical edition forced you to get off your ass every couple of minutes to throw on the next 7″, it was worth the effort.”
In their latest video, “Over Our Heads,” Off! stays in tune with their love of out-there music videos and their hardcore punk sound, which is only heightened in weirdness by the always reliable Jack Black.
