Back in October, mxdwn reported that Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine’s mother-in-law had gone missing, now according to Brooklyn Vegan, she has been found dead.
Sally Estabrook, who had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, had been camping with friends 60 miles northeast of San Diego, when she apparently just vanished. Although she was last seen on Oct. 4, her remains weren’t discovered until Nov. 26. Authorities say even though the pending autopsy should determine the cause of death, no foul play is suspected. Sally was 75 at the time of her death.
In related news, as if Sally’s passing wasn’t sad enough for Megadeth fans, two members of the long running metal band have announced they are leaving the band indefinitely. In two totally separate statements, in the same week, both drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick declared their departures.
First in a statement released by Loudwire, Drover said,
“After 10 years, I have decided to quit Megadeth to pursue my own musical interests. I want to thank Dave Mustaine and the entire Megadeth family, as well as thanking all the amazing Megadeth fans around the world!!! I truly appreciate all of you. Stay tuned for info on my next musical journey.”
Broderick then posted his own statement, just hours later through his official site which read,
“Due to artistic and musical differences, it is with great reluctance that I announce my departure from Megadeth to pursue my own musical direction. I want all of you to know how much I appreciate the amount that you the fans have accepted and respected me as a member of Megadeth for the last seven years, but it is time for me to move on. I wish Dave and everyone in Megadeth all the best. I am working on a few things of my own and hope that when they come out, you will all dig it.”
Also in October, after Megadeth pulled out of the Motörhead’s Motörboat Cruise, Chris Broderick teamed up with a slew of metal musicians, from the deepest well of accomplished metal bands, to create the super group, Metal Allegiance. The band includes:
– singers Philip Anselmo (Down, ex-Pantera), Joey Belladonna (Anthrax) and Chuck Billy (Testament),
– guitarists Chris Broderick (Megadeth), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Gary Holt (Slayer/Exodus), Jon Donais (Shadows Fall, Anthrax), Alex Skolnick (Testament) and Mark Zavon (Kill Devil Hill, W.A.S.P.),
– bassists Frank Bello (Anthrax), David Ellefson (Megadeth) and Rex Brown (ex-Pantera),
– drummers Charlie Benante (Anthrax), John Tempesta (Exodus) and Mike Portnoy (The Winery Dogs, ex-Dream Theater).
Although recently named the 7th best metal band of all time in a MetalSucks poll, Shawn Dover’s brother Glen, who once played in the band himself told Blabbermouth, “There Is NO Chance” I Would Ever Rejoin MEGADETH.
