LISTEN: THEESatisfaction Release New Song “Recognition” Featuring Shabazz Palaces

You’d better recognize!

The extremely unique duo of Stasia “Stas” Irons and Catherine “Cat” Harris-White are releasing their second album next year, called EarthEE. They have released a song from the album, called recognition and you can listen to it now! They invoke a distinctly unique blend of hip-hop, R&B, and soul through this track. It also offers up a nice taste of beat poetry, as the rhythm of the chanting of “recognition” changes, as though the singer is taking the word in and tasting it, chewing on it and contemplating it’s flavor as she repeats its sounds in different stresses. The rhythms are also unique, and they blend a lot of instrumentation that works perfectly to become the background over which the duo repeats their first several lines until the song breaks. Rays of sound pierce the atmosphere, accompanied in unison with Stasia’s voice until she starts once again to repeat the theme and name of the song, unrelentingly like some hypnotic meditation causing chant that offers up the possibility of release.

The song seems to have no beginning or end. It exists as though bookended, but there are many more volumes in this collection. It seems to only be a snippet of something that has been going on around us that we can finally tune into, something ephemeral but ubiquitous, something that is like the bedrock: unseen and unknown until exposed by something on accident.

In a statement about the song, THEESatisfaction said that it was

a message of self assurance and ultimate belief. Its purpose is to encourage confidence as well as to celebrate those who inspire us. Within it we give praise and respect to our ancestors. It’s a daily mantra to stay aligned with your path.

Check it out below and get ready to be pleasantly surprised. We are looking forward to their sophomore effort and we are encouraged to hear this new and truly unique genre bending music that seeks to find its own expansiveness in a world without limits.
