Scott Stapp, lead singer of the popular 90’s rock band Creed, has had a tumultuous last couple of weeks, and it isn’t getting any saner.
After claiming to the world via Facebook that he is homeless, living out of his car and Holiday Inn’s, then TMZ obtained Florida Police report stating that deputies had found Stapp on the side of the road rambling that someone had tried to poison him, placing him into a 72-hour psych hold just before making the Facebook video, he has now launched a crowdfunding campaign to record his next solo album.
According to NME, although put in the psych hold, Stapp’s estranged wife Jaclyn Stapp declares that his abnormal thoughts are most likely derived from his excessive drug use, which follows with the Madison County Florida Sheriff’s Dept. report of him appearing wasted and incoherent. She also claims that Scott was, “leaving messages that his son’s school is about to be attacked by Isis”, and that she had made efforts to have him committed to a psychiatric ward for 60 days.
Now in the wake of all these incidents and allegations, Stapp is asking that his fans help him raise $480,000 to fund his third solo album, and a novel he intends to write by way of a Fundly campaign. So far Stapp has raised $677, thanks to 147 diehard supporters.
The campaign states that he will be using the same team that produced his previous solo albums, 2005’s The Great Divide and 2013’s Proof Of Life, Howard Benson and Chris Lord-Alge, and that this would be his first fictional novel, although in 2012 he did publish a memoir titled Sinner’s Creed.
It is estimated that at the height of Creed’s success, Stapp was worth around $19 million.
Creed released their last album, Full Circle, in 2009 before disbanding, but never reached the same success of Human Clay, which went 10 times platinum or Weathered, which went 6 times platinum. The band has received 3 Grammy nominations, winning once and 6 American Music Award nominations, taking home 4.
